SHARED SPACE
imagine the street as shared space – equal use – during the festival of LENDWIRBEL, graz
our first temporary change of view on urban street

it was great to see how many people understood the concept without us explaining & it was great fun!
new concept of zebra crossing

I was touched by the timid, yet so heartly approach!
TV3 – as screensaver in university…
stills from the video – that is invading the screens in the library at university in Vienna
another version of the performance ZENTRIFUGE – in this film we managed to put space & gravity in question.
I hear the students like to follow it & try to figure out how it works …
oberwart OHO !
a pair of stockings – that were used in a film – made their way to the white wash – now they look like a requisite – they might stand all by themselves!
and again – shoes! awesome – there was something about them, but she didn’t want to tell… so there they are covering the mistery…

WHITE WASH IN JO’BURG
WHITE WASH XVII
my 2 helpers at work – discussing the matter – & the signation…
it was great to have Prophet JD at my side – he added so many thoughts – & people came to participate & bring their stories & interpretations. we talked about the black and the white as being outside of the rainbow – as non-colors, & as big symbols. we talked about the drama of a finishing coating, and the difference to the daily work of women, the never ending circular movement of housekeeping – and this final cut – the white wash – as we perform it, we talked about the cleansing act that might happen, but we also got critic – because white is a symbol of purety & has such high value, it shouldn’t be used in this context – & the concept was questioned, because there is no way to white wash memory / wrongs, or the past – … it is wrong to keep the memory in things – to freeze them in objects -
… true, sure – as in zen – but it isn’t so easy to live it – to really free yourself from being attached to material things… most of us connect memory to objects, places & smell!
A tub with white paint – the esteemed audience is invited to bring something along for white washing

WHITE WASH in Feldkirch/ Vorarlberg
it is very inspiring to have children as audience – but also scary sometimes, as they tend to pic up the attitude of the grownups around them – funny enough – in this part of the world – they where shocked by the concept that they would get a service for free – WHAT IS IT WORTH IF I DON’T PAY – so I asked them to give me something in exchange – this gives them something to think about. so as things have dried and the kids will pic them up in the next few day’s we will see what they come up with…
BLANCHIER
white wash
in France many people wanted me to wash their kids – I’m still trying to find out if they found their children so dirty or if they rather wanted to threaten them with a wash?
in Berlin there was a fair amount of people who proposed to white wash their souls – I’m ready to do that any time – if you can give that soul to me in a visible contraption….
The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.
Pablo Picasso
so how about some white wash to see things in a different sort of light…

… SEEK MY FACE… John UPDIKE
theese words – about modern art- they touch my heart…
They affect me, these literalist sculptures. They tell us something about being human – our vulnerability, mostly. Just our skins – so bald, so easy to puncture…
Dissolving the image … and theres nowhere left to go but parody. … it seems that art has to fumble not to be decadent, it has to be just on the cusp of possible, or we cant’t respond to it as something – heartfelt – it has to be about us, just a skin away from being nothing…. tumbling back into the radiance
about – art rides on money ?
… how can you put them on your wall with a straight face? …
…. “I suppose,… it could be argued that art has no obligation to honor the concept of ownership. It shouldn’t be owned, it should just be.”
“Well, who is going to pay for it to be? What is the point of its just being, if all it does is express the grudges and neuroses of the artist? Where is the transaction?”
